Cosmetic Breast Surgery
Breast enhancement or augmentation is one of the most sought after cosmetic surgeries performed not only in India but all across the world. It can boost the appearance of a woman’s breasts to a considerable effect. The enhancement procedure helps enlarge small breast, underdeveloped breasts, or it adds volume to breasts especially for a woman who have had children, certain hormonal changes or gone through dramatic weight loss. The method of increasing in breast size involves the insertion of a cohesive gel silicone implant. However, nowadays one also undergoes fat grafting for moderate enhancement of breasts.

For many women, the ideal breast size or shape tends to be elusive. They want to change it to make it look more perfect. A procedure such as a breast lift or mastopexy can dramatically change the look of the breasts helping elevate and reshape the breasts overall providing a more youthful appearance. A breast lift and breast augmentation surgery are often carried out in conjunction with breast augmentation clinics.

Is Breast Surgery Suitable for you?

Is Breast Surgery Suitable For YouYou can go into an in-depth consultation with your surgeon and discuss your goals and expectation of the surgery.  Your surgeon will evaluate the nature of your breast, discuss your expectation, and also let you know about the possible outcome of the surgery.
In lieu of the surgery, your surgeon will show you a few before and after treatment photographs having similar breasts, and your surgeon will explain the entire procedure for you to understand the procedure and dispel some of the myths and fears associated with the surgery. Often mammography is required before the operation is carried out.
The Procedures
Breast augmentation and breast lift surgeries are carried out on a Day Care Surgery basis performed under general anesthesia.
The duration of the Augmentation with Cohesive gel silicon Implants usually takes a couple of hours. An incision is made under the lower portion of the breast right next to the chest wall or under the lower portion of the areola (the darker portion around your nipple). Another procedure is also used (albeit less frequently) where the incision site is in the armpit. Post incision is made, a small pocket is created either below or right above the pectoral muscles. Then the implants are inserted in the pocket, and small sutures are made close to the incision. Sometimes inflatable implants are used and your surgeon can adjust the amount of inflation, accordingly.

How Long Does the Full Recovery Take?

It’s important to note that, every woman is different and there is no set timeline for recovery. However, most surgeons agree that a full recovery can take an average of six weeks or so, and women may start feeling better and a lot less run-down after a week or so.

Your surgeon will evaluate your overall health and give you a more defined timeline as to how soon you can recover.

Postoperative Recovery Stages

Post-operation

After anesthesia, you will feel groggy and sore. The effects will be more like a hangover, but these effects begin to wear off in a few hours. However, you cannot drive home alone and you will require someone to stay with you and help you overnight.

The first five to seven days

The initial days, say the first three to five days are often the most uncomfortable. Your doctor will initially prescribe painkillers to subjugate the pain. Sometimes you may require a pain injection or pain pump to help reduce the pain for the initial 72 hours.

After the initial few days, most women can easily manage their postoperative discomfort with over-the-counter painkillers. Also, most women can easily get back to their desk jobs after a week of breast augmentation surgery.

The next few weeks

Patients can get back to their former routine after a week or so,  but they have to take it easy and gradually ease into their daily life and they can even incorporate light exercise in their normal daily routine. The discomfort will minimize with time but doctors advise women to stop themselves from indulging in strenuous activities such as running, horseback riding or rigorous workouts. If you are into lifting stop yourself from indulging into heavy exercises. Women, who have labor-intensive jobs must stay away from work for three weeks at least.

Full recovery

During your follow-up appointment, your doctor will evaluate your progress. After two months most patients can go back to doing their regular activities.  It’s very important to follow your doctor’s instructions so you heal up quickly and efficiently without any complications.

Best Tips to Recover Smoothly from Breast Enhancement Surgery

Best Tips to Recover Smoothly From Breast Enhancement SurgeryHere are a few things you can expect after the surgery. Best tips that breast reduction surgeons and breast augmentation surgeons ask patients to follow are,

  • First, you will experience soreness and swelling. It is absolutely fine and you do not need to worry about it at all and it will subside in due course of time. Just invest in one or two recovery bras to accelerate the healing process.
  • These garments provide maximum post-op comfort, they offer other benefits such as implant stability, mild compression and increased circulation and enable proper lymph drainage. You can purchase them in myriad styles and fabrics so you can choose which one suits your body the most.
  • Wear a bra at all times post-operation so it’s important to choose comfortable and breathable fabrics. Other features to look out for are a breathable fabric, adjustable straps, seamless design, and a smooth and comfortable fit.

Also, it is important to take rest after the surgery, especially the first week following the surgery. Get help for that week or do extra preparations (regarding meal planning, clothes house chores and so on) before the surgery to cater to your health and the changing circumstances. Keep your medications handy so that you get them as and when necessary. Don’t be afraid to ask for assistance especially if you have children. Go easy on the food, eat light easily-digestible foods, take rest and relax. This will help you recover quickly.
