Types-of-Breast-Augmentation

What are the Types of Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a type of cosmetic surgical procedure. It aims to enhance the size and shape of the breast. It involves the usage of breast implants or fat transfer to increase the size of your breasts, enhance your appearance if you think your breasts are small in size. There are different types of breast augmentation options. It can be classified on the different basis such as surface, filler, and shape.

Let’s check out the different options of breast implants for Breast Augmentation Surgery:-

Surface

On the basis of different implant surface types, there are two types such as smooth and textured. Textured implants are the ones that have little bumps on their surface. These were developed to reduce the risk of contracture. It is a type of complication some women develop after augmentation. While the smooth implants have a smooth rather than bumpy surface. Smooth implants are generally preferred for their softer, more natural feel.

Filler

You have the choice of implants filled with either cohesive silicone gel or with saline. Both types of fillers have been used since the earliest days of breast implantation.  Although there is no evidence to support that exposure to silicone can cause any disease in human beings, some women prefer to have their implants filled with saline.

If there is a rupture in the outer shell of the saline implant, a completely bioabsorbable saltwater solution would be simply absorbed into the body and the implant would deflate. While silicone implant is not biodegradable. Therefore, a patient would not notice any change in implant volume, if in case there was a loss of integrity in the shell of a silicone-filled implant. According to many surgeons, saline-filled implants do not have the natural feel of silicone-filled implants.

Shape

As per shape, there are two shape options for implants, teardrop or round. Round implants are usually suitable for the natural shape of the breast and offer women favorable results. Teardrop implants are best for those women who had parts of the breast removed during some or other surgery in the past. It must be noted that the round implants may be either smooth or textured while shaped implants are always textured.

Placement

Implants can be placed either behind the breast tissue or behind the pectoralis chest muscles. Maximum cases of breast augmentation surgery are done in the submuscular plane. It is possible that a submuscular placement may reduce the chance of scar tissue contracture. Submuscular placement typically offers better results for women hoping to drastically enlarge their breasts.

Procedure of Breast Augmentation Surgery

Inframammary fold or Sub-pectoral

According to the reports, about 70 to 80 percent of breast enlargement surgery is performed using an inframammary fold procedure. The procedure allows for minimal effects on the milk-producing areas of the breast. It works well for older patients or mothers. This is because age and pregnancy allow for a natural amount of sag in the breast.

Trans-axillaries

About 10 to 20 percent of breast augmentations are also done using a trans-axillary procedure. The main advantage of this procedure is that there is no scar on the breast itself. However, one of the disadvantages of this approach is that getting a symmetrical implant positioned is somewhat more difficult.

Peri-areolar

In this type of breast augmentation procedure, an incision is made around the nipple-areolar complex. Women who receive breast augmentation through this procedure may have more problems with breastfeeding and nipple sensation following surgery. This procedure is preferred for women with very small breasts who do not have any fold under their breasts.

Trans Umbilical Breast Augmentation

This is the latest approach to augmentation. This procedure makes use of an incision through the belly button. It is only available for subglandular saline implants.
